# Writing a conclusion for your response to an ERQ

When you have worked your way through nearly an hour’s worth of writing for an ERQ in an exam, the conclusion can sometimes seem daunting.  However, follow these tips to help you round off your essay well:

1. Summarise your essay – imagine your whole essay in miniature size and include the main aspects and arguments in your summary
2. Make a concluding statement about which aspects of the argument seem to have more support given what you have said in your essay
3. You could add some speculative comments about what future research needs to address given what you have said in your concluding statement above.  For example, are there any gaps in the research in a particular field of study?

**Ensure that you do not include any new information or arguments at this stage of your essay.**
