The Role of the Supervisor

What are the supervisor's responsibilities?

First and foremost is the supervisor's responsibility to read the MYP projects guide.

Each student or student group who has decided to work together should have an assigned supervisor.

Community project coordinators can assign a supervisor, have supervisors choose from a list of students' project goals, or have students select from a list of supervisors.

Supervisors need to:

  • ensure students' topics are appropriate

  • assist with the process, timeline, and supporting the development of students' self-management skills

  • ensure the process journal meets the criteria

  • ensure the academic integrity of the project

  • assess the community project using the assessment criteria

Community Project Coordinators need to:

  • provide guidelines for the community project

  • provide a timeline for the completion of the project

  • ensure understanding of the assessment criteria

  • advise on how to use and complete the process journal

  • provide formative feedback and ensure supervisors are providing supportive feedback

  • guide the requirements for academic honesty

  • supporting librarian in the investigation process

  • maintaining excitement and enthusiasm for the students and supervisors
