Introduction

What are personal and professional skills?

The personal and professional skills (PPS) course is one of the four compulsory elements of the CP core programme. It is a scheduled course in both years of the CP and makes links to the career-related study and all the other core components.

The course is designed by each school, reflecting local and national requirements and relevant to each student's future plans for employment, training, or university.

It will give students the chance to experience practical real-world learning and provide them with authentic opportunities. This might include:

  • workplace visits

  • masterclasses

  • work shadowing

  • internships

  • other work-related experiences.

PPS is a course that will support student aspirations, develop key skills, and will be challenging, practical, and relevant.

Put simply, the personal and professional skills course prepares students for the future!

The presentation below can be used to introduce PPS to students and members of staff who are unfamiliar with this IBCP core element. It can also be used as a further introduction to this student guide. Coordinators and teachers are welcome to use and adapt by using File> Copy.
