# What are Command Terms

Command terms are action words that are ‘embedded in the objectives and assessment criteria’ for all IB subjects. They help students ‘understand and know what to do.’ There is a consistent definition and application of the terms across disciplines to support those with language needs and to reduce stress and confusion among all students.
