After authorisation, IB schools are evaluated every five years. The preliminary review (PR) is a part of the evaluation process in which a school reflects on its compliance with the published ‘Rules for IB World Schools’, which can be found on the IB’s website on the PRC. There is a list of documents which the school submits for the PR. The school's submitted documents are reviewed by a trained Programme Leader from the IBEN team. Feedback is then provided through a report on aspects that meet expectations, don’t meet expectations, and information about whether any revisions are required.

In some cases where schools need time to work on items to meet expectations, they might be required to submit an action plan to show how they plan to meet the expectations mentioned in the PR feedback.
