Digging deeper

Professional development topics for digging deeper or continuing understanding may include (but are not limited to):

Inquiry

  • Deepening an understanding of inquiry based teaching and learning.

  • Planning learning engagements that utilize an inquiry based approach.

  • Creating inquiry “look fors” within the context of classroom environments.

Examples of meaningful professional development

Concept driven learning

  • Deepening an understanding of the role of concepts within the context of the PYP.

  • Evaluating the identified and related key concepts that drive units of inquiry.

  • Revising assessment engagements so that they support conceptual understanding.

Transdisciplinary learning

  • Deepening an understanding of the transdisciplinary nature of the programme of inquiry.

  • Revisiting transdisciplinary units of inquiry and local/national requirements to affirm connections and identify opportunities for revision.

In addition to ongoing professional development facilitated by the school coordinator, or other teacher leaders, the coordinator can assist in ensuring that teachers attend official IB/PYP training.
