Programme standards and practices
'The standards are general principles that lie at the heart of being an IB World School, while practices are further definitions of the standards that include references to implementation. Requirements are more specific and refined measures of implementation, and include programme-specific elements known as specifications. The standards and practices, requirements and programme specifications are necessary for the successful implementation of the relevant IB programme.' - Programme Standards and Practices
The Programme Standards and Practices are in place to ensure quality and consistency across schools.
Consider how the categories within the standards and practices (purpose, environment, culture and learning) can serve as points for change management, rather than compliance indicators. Instead of “checking the box”, think about how the learning environment is evolving to provide meaningful experiences for students.
Whether you are preparing for a site visit from the IB (authorization or evaluation), continuously referring to the Programme Standards and Practices will ensure that a school is following the most accurate guidance in their growth of the PYP. Keep in mind that this is a comprehensive list of actions that is meant to be developed over time.
It will be important to prioritize and focus on a few items at a time, not all at once.
Consider how the following action and engagements may support the implementation of the Programme Standards and Practices.
