When schools are effectively implementing ATL in their PYP programmes, they are able to provide evidence in the following IB Standards and Practices:

Standard: Students as lifelong learners

  • Lifelong learners 1: Students actively develop thinking, research, communication, social and self-management skills.

    • Lifelong learners 1.1: The school implements and reviews the development of the IB’s approaches to learning.

Standard: Designing a coherent curriculum

  • Coherent curriculum 1.5: The school articulates its schedule and curriculum to make it possible for students to make connections across their learning.

To ensure the effective implementation of the Approaches to Learning in line with the Standards & Practices, schools and teachers are encouraged to systematically examine the programme of inquiry through the lenses of both vertical and horizontal articulation.

Further support is offered in the PYP Guide on page 32 as well as in the PYP documentation.
