Assessment

Your focus (and time) in May will be taken up almost entirely by exams.

  • Create an exam room testing kit:

    • Checklist of what’s in the kit

    • Pens & Pencils

    • Poster or whiteboard markers for marking remaining time

    • Clock

    • Scissors

    • Tissues

    • Stationary

  • Receive the exam shipment.

    • Keep exams secure when they are delivered. Do not open the dark blue exam bags until the time of exams (tip: you may want to wear gloves while handling the exam shipment, as the blue bags often bleed onto your fingertips).

    • Check the exam delivery against the included checklist.

    • Double-check that you have enough exams for your students, and that the level of each exam is correct.

    • Organize exams.

      • Suggestion: Have one drawer or file for each week of testing, and sort each specific exam into a folder. Place the folders in order of administration.

      • Label folders with the exam, date, and time as well as the names of the invigilator.

  • Invigilate exams. The coordinator should start and end each exam in most cases (you can assign the task to a qualified invigilator if necessary).

  • Keep exam scripts secure.

  • Ship exam scripts in accordance with IB guidelines within 24 hours of exam administration.

    • Obtain scanning center addresses (separate for multiple choice and all other exams) from IBIS.

  • Communicate clearly with all IB teachers and students about exam progress and protocols.

  • Have snacks or treats for students during exam breaks.

  • For a personal touch, create exam goodie bags for students that could include pens, pencils, a stress relief ball, snacks, and an inspirational message.

  • Conduct an end-of-year or exit survey for graduating seniors and IB faculty that gives an opportunity for feedback on the programme.

  • Enter colleges for graduating students (so scores are sent).

  • Hand out graduate letters (available on the PRC), if necessary.

  • Send administration the preliminary exam dates for next year when they’re available on the PRC (you’ll need to check for changes at the beginning of next year).

  • Celebrate the accomplishments of graduating seniors both publicly and privately.

For a personal touch, write a letter or note to each graduating IB student (depending on program size!).

  • Follow school protocols to pay for exam shipping.

    • Consider using preferred shipping if making DHL shipments (shipping with DHL directly is notoriously challenging).

    • Ask about organizational accounts with FedEx or UPS.
