October

  • Facilitate IBDP faculty meeting and collaboration.

  • Update and check assessment calendar (particularly if tracking course assessments such as tests or quizzes on the assessment calendar in addition to IB assessments).

  • (early) Draft college recommendation letters for full DP students in year 2 (most schools will want a recommendation from the DP coordinator) - letters can be strengthened by specifics about students’ CAS projects, EE topics, or stand-out IA topics.

  • Talk to Year 11 (DP1) students about registering for SAT/ACT or other college entrance exams.

For US schools, students should also take the PSAT if they’re contenders for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

  • Review all five formal policies with IB faculty. It is good to rotate committees yearly so that all teachers are eventually intimately familiar with each of the five policies. The required policies include:

    • Academic Honor Policy

    • Special Education Policy

    • Assessment Policy

    • Admissions Policy

    • Language Policy

  • Continue to follow-up with students (especially course candidates) about registering for exams.

  • Update IB Diploma Programme promotional materials and/or application form(s) after policy review.

  • Develop a student recruitment plan, particularly if your school has a new or growing IB programme:

    • Make a plan for visiting classes (or having IB students or teachers visit targeted classes with a brief presentation and opportunity for Q&A).

    • Call or email parents of qualified students about attending information nights.

    • Schedule informational nights for parents with a thorough presentation, student testimonials, and IB faculty.

      • Consider both an in-person and a virtual event at different times to help accommodate schedules.

      • Consider recording a presentation for those who are unable to attend the event.

      • Provide a sign-in sheet with QR code link to Google form for families to fill out their contact information and ask questions.

    • Communicate with any feeder schools about visiting to speak with students about secondary programs of study.

    • Ask teachers to nominate students or invite them to apply to the IB programme (if there is a choice of programmes).

  • Work with school or district administration to find solutions for students who can’t afford to pay for exams on their own.

  • Submit payments for any resources that were acquired with a purchase order.
