Ongoing reflections

Ongoing reflections can serve as checkpoints throughout the scope of the inquiry to ensure that teaching and learning are both following the planned learning experiences and honoring student agency. Guiding questions to consider for this continuous reflection and revisions include:

  • How are we responding to students’ emerging questions, theories, inquiries and interests throughout the inquiry?

  • How are we supporting opportunities for student-initiated action throughout the inquiry?

  • How can we ensure that learning is purposeful and authentic and/or connects to real-life challenges and opportunities?

  • How are we nurturing positive relationships between home, family and school as a basis for learning, health and well-being?

-PYP Planning Template

It is inevitable that throughout the scope of the inquiry that things will not always go as planned. This is sometimes for the better, and sometimes can result in unanticipated challenges. Teachers may find themselves thinking, 'I’ll want to remember this for next time!'. The 'ongoing reflections' section of the planner is an appropriate spot to document these reflections.
