CASEL’s tool is designed for use by your school’s staff, including teachers, principals, administrative staff and other adults in your school community. It provides a series of statements broken into the five competencies, and then further into categories such as “emotional self-awareness”, “identity and self-knowledge” and “growth mindset and purpose”.

The aim is for the person using the tool to select how strongly they agree or disagree with each statement. After going through each of the statements, they are encouraged to identify patterns in their responses that can highlight both their own strengths and areas for further development and action.

This would be a good activity and discussion starter at a staff meeting.
